Water Bodies

There are several rivers and other water bodies that pass through the forests of Gujarat. Some of the prominent rivers in the state include the Narmada, Tapti, and Sabarmati, which all have their sources in the forests of the region.

In addition to rivers, there are also several wetlands and lakes in the state, including the Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a Ramsar site, and the Marine National Park, which is the country’s first marine national park and is located in the Gulf of Kutch.

These water bodies not only provide essential habitat for a variety of flora and fauna, but they also support the livelihoods of local communities through activities such as fishing and irrigation.

Furthermore there are several lakes in the state of Gujarat that are located within or near the forests. Some of the notable lakes include the Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad, the Vastrapur Lake in Ahmedabad, and the Narayan Sarovar Lake in the Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary.

These lakes not only provide important habitats for a variety of flora and fauna, but they also serve as recreational areas for local communities and tourists. Some of the lakes in Gujarat are also used for irrigation and as sources of drinking water.

Conservation efforts in the region aim to protect these lakes and the species that depend on them, while also promoting sustainable use of their resources. This includes measures to prevent water pollution, reduce sedimentation, and manage human activities in the vicinity of the lakes that may impact their ecological health.
