Research and monitoring works are the two indispensable arms, which support and strengthen the PA management. Developing and using the information base, is the essential first step in deciding the PA management goal and the objectives. On one hand filling of gaps in the existing information base helps in determining the research needs whereas on the other hand the research findings and monitoring outputs enhance the information base to assist and redefining the objectives, prioritising management issues and evolving appropriate strategies.
One of the major thrusts under India eco-development project is the impact monitoring and research. Under short term studies several research and monitoring works have been undertaken.
Protection of a single endangered species or the whole complexity of the dynamic ecosystem requires management interventions in order to restore impaired habitats and to ensure ecosystem integrity and maintain optimal environmental conditions. To manage dynamic PA with high degree of efficiency and safety, the manager need to know and understand a great deal more about the way in which the various ecological processes operate. This understanding can be developed through scientifically researched reliable in formation.
