Introduction

Wildlife Training With the increasing focus on conservation of Biodiversity, the wildlife management has assumed high significance. The field of wildlife is highly technical and specialized so in order to ensure the effective management the staff needs to be oriented towards wildlife along with adequate management skills and latest technologies.

The state of Gujarat is very rich in wildlife and therefore the responsibility of protection and management for same is very high. Keeping this aspect into consideration the wildlife training has been accorded exclusive attention.

The wildlife training is conducted by wildlife division under TRC Circle, and is headed by Dy. Conservator of Forests, who is assisted by two RFOs.

Target Group

The wildlife issues and their management are dealt at different levels and therefore three distinct targets groups have been identified.

  • Forest Staff, including ACF, RFO, Forester and Beat Guard
  • The people living in and around the sanctuary and National Parks
  • The students and teachers

Course Module

Keeping in view the various specific issues of wildlife, the course has been redesigned, it includes the restructuring of topics, due weightage to the topics on the basis of importance, more input of practical issues related to capturing and overall orientation. The detailed course material has been prepared and is being provided.

Course Duration

The duration of the course has been kept of five days, careful planning has been done to ensure the proper spread of such trainees, which involves selection of trainers from entire state.

  • Forest staff Training
    A. ACF-3 days
    B. FRO-5 days (Refresher course)
    C. Forester/FEA - 3 days
    D. Beat Guard - 2 days
  • The people living in and around the wild life Sanctuary and National parks-One day
  • Students and Teachers-3 days (Nature Education Camps)

Course Content

The course content is customized to suit the requirement of different cadre i.e. ACF, RFO, Forester, Beat Guard. The course content comprises field tour, field exercises and theory. the focal subjects include Indian wildlife act, habitat and specific studies, Man human conflict, management plan preparation, Wildlife ecology, Census and surveys, wildlife handling and rescue techniques.

Course Venue

The training is imparted at the training centre at Gandhinagar for ACF and RFO, Rajpipla for Forester/FEA and Kakarapar for Best Guard. However, for the purposed of Nature Education Camps, different suitable site have been selected every year.
